Bible Study today

My Bible study today was Psalm 46:1, "God is our refuge and strength; a very present help in trouble."

When I was going through my divorce many years ago, I would kneel on the floor and cry out to God. I was in so much pain and so much confusion. Divorce was not a notion that I took lightly, especially since I had three young boys. I knew that God was with me and loved me through it. I have never been closer to God as I was at that time.

However, sometimes I needed a physical presence. A person to hold me and reassure me. One day, I was in my bathroom, looking into the mirror, weeping and telling God that I knew He was with me but I needed Him to send someone to comfort me. Not 10 minutes later, there was a knock on my door and my kindred spirit, Deanne, stood there for me. Sent by God.

I knew then, just as the Psalmist knew when he wrote this scripture, that God IS a very present help in times of trouble.
