Jim and Strat went to see Matt and Laura, with the intention of visiting their new home and exchanging Christmas gifts. They drove to Hanceville to get Jim's mom and dad to take them, too. Jim took the camera along, as well.
It was nice of Strat to go. Jim asked me, of course, and Jack and Chase. We all declined, but the one who gets along with Jim the least offered to go. Go figure. Thinking difference exhibit #1.
So, upon their return (Jim called me intermittently throughout the day just to check in), one of my first questions to Strat (the first one through the door) was, "What did Laura get your Dad for Christmas"? "I don't know," was the reply. "I didn't even notice." Thinking difference exhibit #2.
Jim walked him and I didn't say anything to him about it. I looked at the pics of Laura opening Christmas gifts, her new home and pics of her with various family members (she was in them all), and asked Jim (I could no longer hold my tongue), "What did she get you for Christmas?"
Nothing.
"What did she get your mom and dad?"
Nothing.
Jim said that it never even occurred to him that she didn't get them anything. Thinking difference exhibit #3. I'll bet that it occurred to Jean (Laura's grandmother - Jim's mom). However, I am SURE she didn't say a word because she loves Laura so.
I thought it was another notch in her pretty-damn-tacky-and-selfish belt that she seems to wear so well.
