In Carmenland, there will be some changes in the the taxation on Americans (and don't forget about the new Americans that will come when we absorb Mexico into the country). Here's what I am thinking:
1. There will be ONE flat tax on income. 25% of income will go to taxes. There will be no more deductions, so you can stop popping out babies so you can make more money. We'll cover this on the welfare page later on. I'm gonna have to ramp up for that one.
2. Sales tax will be nationally set at 6%. Restrictions listed in the next point.
3. No sales tax on food, clothing or perscriptions. Yes, dummies, you will still pay tax if you eat at a restaurant. And yes, you will pay tax on that prescription drug that just went OTC.
4. No extra "luxury" tax on anything. The normal national sales tax applies to all purchases, regardless of the cost.
5. Property tax will be the same nationally. Not sure what that will be yet; I'll get my Minister of Taxes to turn on some research.
6. Tax on alcohol and tobacco is going way up. Yes, that's the way it goes. People like to smoke and drink, but it's not healthy, and they are going to have to finance the medical bills they are going to cause on society for their indulgences. Again, the Minister of Tax will have to research this increase and submit a proposal before a decision is made.
7. Since there is no longer any state and local tax, don't even worry about seeing that on your paystub.
8. Speaking of paystubs, I'm going to have to think about FICA. Social Security is a good thing, and my flat tax on income should take care of this. There will not be a limit to how much you pay, though. For example, the rich don't have to pay FICA anymore when they reach $94K in a year. What kind of CRAPOLA is that? They are the ones who should be shelling it out. Nope. It's 25% on all income, regardless of the total amount in a year. Deal with it.
That's it for now. I'll be back later with more of the Carmenland vision.
