What constitutes the need for a TYW? If someone has to break, even for a second, to let you in, they deserve a TYW. If someone breaks their momentum, even if it's by taking their foot off the gas pedal, to let you in, they have done you a favor and they deserve a TYW. If there is any doubt, give the TYW.
Here's a slice of truth for some of you private-parts-head drivers: you do NOT EVER force yourself in between cars. The car that ends up behind you LETS you in, probably to avoid an accident that you will cause if you don't slow your agressive-driving-self down. So, anytime you get in front of someone in traffic, and you can make out their facial features, rest assured that you are there because that person LET YOU IN. Give them a darn TYW. They will feel better about their high standard of driving etiquette, and will see hope in the humanity of other drivers.
And, while we are on the subject of driving, STOP putting on make-up while you are driving behind me at 50 mph on the parkway! That's another topic, for another day.
