Today is June 6. This is quite an important anniversary in history. I usually enjoy looking at the Google picture because it is always very timely and relevant. Here is what it displays today:

If you do not know what this picture represents, do not be alarmed. It celebrates the birth of Spanish painter Diego Velázquez. Who is that, you ask? I don't know and I don't care.
"What else happened today that should be here, Carmen?"
I'm glad you asked! Here are some alternatives:
- D-Day, 1944: This is the anniversary of the single largest one-day invasion in history. The turning of the war. The single reason that we don't all speak German.
- The first drive-in opens in 1933
- 1949: George Orwell's 1984 is published
- 1968: Robert F. Kennedy dies in Los Angeles
As you can see, the birth of a Spanish painter is quite insignificant compared to the above, very limited, listing that I have provided. Google has lost some credibility with me over this.
And I wonder why I frequently feel as if I am in a very small minority of thinking people.
