Amy Bishop not guilty?!

It infuriates me that Amy Bishop has plead not guilty to murder. The definition of guilt is "responsible for a usually grave breach of conduct or a crime."

Some background. From my very favorite source, Wikipedia: At the University of Alabama in Huntsville in Huntsville, Alabama, three people were killed and three others wounded in a shooting on February 12, 2010. During the course of a routine meeting of the biology department attended by approximately 12 individuals, a professor stood up and began shooting those closest to her with a 9-millimeter handgun. Amy Bishop, a biology professor at the university and the sole suspect, has been charged with one count of capital murder and three counts of attempted murder; under Alabama state law, she could be eligible for the death penalty if convicted.

That's pretty succinct, right? Twelve people were in the room, which seems a serendipitous number since that's how many people it will take to send her to death row, and saw her shoot her gun. The weapon either jammed or ran out of ammunition, keeping more from being killed. Bishop then left the room and called her husband for a ride home.

Now there are two VERY DIFFERENT issues at stake here. One: Is Amy Bishop guilty of shooting, killing and injuring? Second: was she too insane to know what she was doing? The fact that there is an innocent by reason of insanity is absolutely ludicrous in civilized society.

So, the answer to the first question is "Hell to the yeah she did it." Guilty. Guilty. Guilty.

The answer to the second question is up for grabs. She certainly seems unhinged, but what mega-smart person have you ever tried to hold a conversation with who hasn't seemed a little "out there"? It is a generalization to say that megabrains = low social skills. Go figure.

With that in mind, she should probably spend some time in a mental facility and on medication. When, and if, she is "cured", she goes to prison. After all, she is GUILTY. She does not get to spend time in a mental hospital, then get released because she didn't know what she was doing. That is all the more reason not to let her crazy self back into mainstream society. When she is deemed sane, she just switches from bedroom to cell.

Oh, how I long for Carmenland sometimes...
