Racial profiling has long been controversial because our black brothers and sisters feel that they are unreasonably targeted. While I am sure this is very true, I'd like to talk mostly about our Muslim guests in the US. It's called "predictive profiling" and it is rooted in fact, history, and experience.
Less controversial is profiling by gender. According to the Dept of Justice crime records in 2008, 6 million crimes were committed by men. 1.9 million were by women (table 33). Couldn't a person assume from these figures that men are more likely to commit a crime? Likewise, crimes by whites are overwhelmingly more than blacks, by a whopping 69% to 28%, with the exception of robbery and murder, which blacks lead (table 43). With that in mind, I would expect a white man in the US to commit a crime before a black woman.
Now, let's take this predictive profiling and apply it to terrorism. Here are a few names for you:
- Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab - tried to blow up airplane landing in Detroit (Dec 25, 2009)
- Ziad Jarrah, Ahmed al-Haznawi, Ahmed al-Nami, Saeed al-Ghamdi - Hijackers of Flight 93 on (Sept 11, 2001)
- Richard Colvin Reid, AKA Abdul Raheem and Tariq Raja - "shoe bomber" (Dec 22, 2001)
- Oumar Issa, Idriss Abdelrahman and Harouna Toure - Drug trafficking and al Qaeda (Dec 18, 2009)
- Tahawwur Hussein Rana - involved in Mumbai attacks (Nov 2008)
- Ehsanul Islam Sadequee and Syed Haris Ahmed - working to support terrorists (Dec 2009)
- Maj. Nidal Malik Hasan - Army psychiatrist killed 13 people at Fort Hood, TX (Nov 5, 2009)
Should TSA pull EVERY Arab aside for a panty-check? Hell yes, they should! Should they have dogs sniffing around their luggage, carry-ons and persons? Hell yes, they should!
Should we hold our tongues when it comes to voicing concerns over a minority or culturally different person because we don't want to be labeled "racist" or "discriminatory"? Hell, no, we shouldn't. If several people had spoken up, there would be 13 people alive today at Fort Hood.
Political correctness be damned! ACLU - Kiss my ass. I don't hate Arabs, but I do recognize that they are more likely to blow my American ass up than anyone else, and I do not want to be on an airplane with them. Does that offend you? I don't care. YOU fly with them.
