I don't seem to be alone. Letterman has his top 10 list. Wayne and Garth made lists. Remember when Wayne had a list of the top 10 hottest babes, and Garth's mom was number 3? That was the same episode with the dream sequence featuring Madonna. Hilarious. Facebook is full of "Top Five" lists; I've even created a few online.

But, they have elastic bands to keep them closed, they are sewn together instead of glued, and they have a rich legacy...they are just different in some way, and feel better. They are also very expensive, which makes me a fan of the little black books with the word "Journal" printed in gold on the front that you can buy at MegaLoMart.
For most, list making is about time management. But not for me. I like to just simply make lists. Lists of things I like about spring, my favorite movies, things I find ridiculous. What on earth makes me do this? I don't do it for others to see, and thereby get to know be better. No one looks at these little books in which I write. Most people who know me don't even know I do it. I always have at least two and sometimes three in my handbag, ready to pull out when something hits me of which I must make note.
I found a blog with the title: 43 Reasons to Make Lists for Everything. Isn't that hilarious? A list for making lists! That is so like me.
I have tried journaling throughout the years, and oddly enough, I find it almost impossible to journal. Future generations will just have to get to know me through my lists. There is something intentional and planned about journaling, where list-making is completely spontaneous. Maybe that's what the draw is. I may never know what is behind this need to list.
So, I will continue with my little list books. I will draw pictures in them when words fail me. I'll use different colored pens because it makes me feel like a girl again, using purple-glitter-grape-smelling ink. Who knows...maybe they will be like Thoreau's journals and be published 100 years after I write them. You just never know...
