There are a lot of women for whom I don't care, and think they need to be brought down off their high horse. In reality, my very thinking this puts me on another kind of self-righteous high horse, and makes me no different.
Which one of us has not said, "Did you see what she is wearing?!" Not one of us has seen a beautiful woman walk into a room without sizing her up. It is, I'm afraid, just the way we are. We are raised to see life as a competition where winning is imperative.
In the entire animal kingdom, it is the male that fights for the female. The male must be colorful and showy to impress a prospective mate. Look at the mail cardinal - bright red. The female - brown. It is the male peacock which struts its plumes, not the female. For humans, though, it is just the opposite. Women fight one another for attention. Cosmetics, hair color, high-heeled shoes, lycra-laced undergarments...all to make a woman look better. At first it was to impress a male, but now we want to look better than anyone else. What an unreachable goal!
There is, in my opinion, nothing we can do about it. It's become a right-of-passage for school girls, and brings out the worst in moms. the media, movies, commercials that we all see day after day encourage it and enforce our insecurities. The easiest way to feel better about ourselves is to tear someone else down.
Start a transformation by looking in the mirror. You are no better than anyone else. You are loved by God just the way you are. Be the best you can be today. Those are three truths that you should tell yourself over and over, and will answer most cattiness that creaps your way throughout the day. Once your daughter sees you doing this, she will learn from you. One person at a time is the only way to change the perception.
Good luck, girls of all ages! You are perfect just the way you are!

"Cosmetics, hair color, high-heeled shoes, lycra-laced undergarments...all to make a woman look better." If it weren't for these things I'd be up you know what crick...
Amen and thank you for the inspiring words. I think it may even need a run in the Trib.
Anyway, I agree with Deanne. Thank God for hair color!
God Bless
