My 42nd Year Begins

My 42nd year started March 1st, and it was pretty much uneventful. I asked my family for two things: have a family dinner and have a cake. I didn't ask for world peace and a million dollars. Even so, I didn't get either one of them. I'm not at all sure about the cake, but the dinner had a reasonable explanation. Strat was gone all day for a school event, and Jack and Chase were gone all evening to a Relay for Life fundraiser. So, I kind of understand that no family dinner happened. Strat, Jim and I ate my birthday dinner at Zaxby's in Guntersville after going to Lowe's. Ho hum, says I.

So, I told my family that I was treating myself to a birthday movie on Sunday. Jim had work to do on the kitchen wall (sheet rock and mudding) and Strat copped a little attitude with me earlier in the day, so Jack, Chase and I went to see "Welcome Home, Roscoe Jenkins". It was pretty funny. I have to say, though, it was on the UPPER end of PG-13. That is another story altogether.

When I walked into the office Monday morning, I was so surprised to see streamers hanging from the ceiling, balloons all over my floor
, crepe paper on the walls, birthday banners on the walls,
a table for food. THEN the food started coming in! WOW! I felt so loved! There were gifts, cards, lunch, shopping, it was GREAT!

To make sure my family understood, I waited until everyone was home that night, asked them all to come into the living room and have a seat. I turned down the lights and told them that they were about to see a slide show of how to treat a wife and mother on her birthday. We looked at all of the pics from the extravaganza at work, then I let them sit in their own guilt, simmering slowly until they were very tender.

The next night, came home to a cookie cake, which I love. Sure, my family ate most of it, but what do I want? To have my cake and eat it, too? haha The night after that, I got two roses and a plaque for the garden. Sure, it was from my mother-in-law, but at least she represents my husband. ha

All in all, it's going to be a pretty darned good year!
