Thoughts for the day

Jim told me last night that he remembers being about Strat's age when he realized that the excitement over Christmas wouldn't last much longer. That confirmed for me that his rosy outlook on life goes WAY back. haha

I have never lost my excitement for Christmas. I love shopping for people, the crowds, the music, the decorations, the lights, the church services, the extra activities, the food...I could go on and on, but I have more things to cover.

The weekend starts today and I have great plans for the family (and now that I think of it, I don't think I've shared this with the boys, so they will be surprised...kind of).

Tonight is the Christmas program at Kids First, and I have been pressed into service by my mom to help her with her class. I did this last year, too, and it is so much fun! She teaches the two-year-olds, and I will help her get them dressed (little angels, I think), make sure they make it from the classroom to the sanctuary, and then to their parents in the congregation. There will be signing with little hand movements, and they are so very cute. It reminds me of when the boys were that age, and I can't believe it was over 10 years ago and Strat is now battling acne...but I digress. I love watching mama with the little ones...my mother is a born-grandmother! She is loving, open, caring, but also firm. She speaks to them in a way that they understand, but not down to them. She treats them like as much of an equal as she can, respecting who they are as little people, while never letting them forget who is in charge. She really is gifted with these babies.

Anyway, after the program, I will go back home for popcorn and movie night! I rented The Santa Clause 3 with Tim Allen and we will watch that tonight. I love those Santa Clause movies!

This weekend, we are going to do a bit more decorating. We are going to put net lights on the shrubs outside, move the reindeer that Uncle Jackie made years ago to the front porch, and something else that I can't remember right now. I want to do all of that on Saturday. The the Christmas party for my work is that night. Lauren is coming over at 6pm, and I don't expect it will be a late night for us. We always have a pretty good time and the food is good.

Sunday, I will be our day of rest. After church, where we are having a birthday party for Jesus during Sunday School, I'll go home and take a beautiful Christmas nap. (haha) As it starts getting dark, I want to ride around and look at Christmas lights. I thought we would have to drive to Huntsville to see some good ones, but I have seen some really elaborate displays in the 'ole hometown, so we will stay local.

It is shaping up to be a wonderful weekend! Next weekend is when the serious festivities start. See the home page for our schedule.
