I received one of those quizes from my friend Cindy, where there are about 25 questions that you answer and forward to more friends...I usually see them as a huge waste of time, but found this one intriguing because it focused on Christmas.
One question in particular was "What is your favorite Christmas song?" How funny I would get that question because I was JUST thinking about this over the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. I was listening to Christmas music, singing along and I got to a verse of the song that just made my heart swell. I thought it would fairly explode. Read these words and remember what the Christmas holdiay is really about:
Oh holy night! The stars are brightly shining,
It is the night of the dear Saviour's birth.
Long lay the world in sin and error pining,
Till He appear'd and the soul felt its worth.
A thrill of hope the weary world rejoices,
For yonder breaks a new and glorious morn.
Fall on your knees! Oh, hear the angel voices!
Oh night divine, Oh night when Christ was born;
Oh night divine, Oh night, Oh night Divine.
Led by the light of Faith serenely beaming,
With glowing hearts by His cradle we stand.
So led by light of a star sweetly gleaming,
Here come the wise men from Orient land.
The King of Kings lay thus in lowly manger;
In all our trials born to be our friend.
He knows our need, to our weakness is no stranger,
Behold your King! Before Him lowly bend!
Behold your King, Behold your King.
Truly He taught us to love one another;
His law is love and His gospel is peace.
Chains shall He break for the slave is our brother;
And in His name all oppression shall cease.
Sweet hymns of joy in grateful chorus raise we,
Let all within us praise His holy name.
Christ is the Lord! O praise His Name forever,
His power and glory evermore proclaim.
His power and glory evermore proclaim.
Composed by Adolphe Adam in 1847 to the poem "Minuit, chrétiens" by Placide Cappeau (1808-1877), an accomplished amateur. Cappeau was asked to write a Christmas poem by a parish priest. How little he probably realized that, in 2007, a wife and mother in Arab, Alabama would stop what she was doing and praise the one and only Holy Lord because of his song.
